Karate By The Sea's Shorin Kenpo Karate

Karate By The Sea, a division of Conley's Martial Arts (CMA), is pretty much a spin off of Conley's Martial Arts. Hanshi Bill Conley, thru CMA, previously had five Dojo locations in operation. Then came the Covid Pandemic, which shut all five down. This past April 2022 under a new Dojo name, Hanshi Conley opened (re-opened) the Karate By The Sea Dojo in St Andrews, NB, in so, becoming the original Karate By The Sea Dojo and Hombu.  A second and final Karate By The Sea Dojo expansion occurred later that year in St Stephen, NB!

Shorin Kenpo Karate/Karate By The Sea Dojo

Shorin Kenpo Karate

The system of Karate taught at the Karate By The Sea Dojo in St Andrews/St Stephen, NB in the Junior classes (Lil Karate Kis & Karate Kids Programs) is Shorin Kenpo Karate. It is based from Okinawan Kenpo with Matsubayashi SHORIN Ryu Karate> hence: Shorin Kenpo Karate. Shorin Kenpo Karate is the marriage, primarily, of two systems: Okinawan (White Crane) Kenpo and Matsubayashi Shorin Ryu Karate, along with other supplemental systems salted into the mix. The Adult program is NOT Sport Karate! The Kid’s program leans a bit in that direction, but emphasis is still made on self-defense! One notable identifier is in the way we form our fists, with most regards to the placement of the thumb. It is derived from Isshin Ryu Karate and, also from Master John LaTourette (Parker Kenpo), from which Conley received training from both sources. (Conley is a 3rd Dan in Isshin Ryu.) Another defining feature(s) is the way we utilize weight displacement and specific heel contact with the ground in our footwork and movement. Our system features a specific way of linear punching (Karate Punching), "punching around/by the pole."
Simplest Defined Difference Between Kenpo and Karate
Karate is primarily based more on Linear (Straight Line) tactics, where Kenpo primarily is based more on Circular tactics.  (Kenpo/Circular – Karate/Linear)
